Bearing Witness to Truth in Public

BEARING WITNESS TO TRUTH IN PUBLIC (1)

I was in my favorite coffee shop studying, when a barrister ran out of the door followed by another barrister and a customer.  It seemed that the barrister’s bike had been stolen.

I began to pray immediately.  I had just been working with the idea of one Mind and its ideas, and just knew the man could not lose anything because God could not lose anything and God’s idea, man, could not steal anything.  The bike was returned, a confrontation avoided, and the ‘thief’ walked off!  I thanked God, and really enjoyed the declaration of truth and its harmonious outcome.

I was out one day with the lady that I have been working with as a companion.  She and I were sitting on a bench discussing Christian Science.  She has been a life-long Scientist but has experienced a belief in forgetfulness.  However, when we discuss Science she is right on the mark!

While we were talking I heard a commotion and noticed that a gentleman had fallen down some steps.  As I was closest I reached him first.  I didn’t immediately talk to him about God, but I did declare the truth to myself, and said out loud, “You are all right” -- and felt that very strongly.  Still he seemed a bit shaken, so he came and sat down on the bench next to us.

My friend whispered to me, “What do we do?”  I said, “We pray.  That’s why we were the ones nearest to him – we know how to pray.”  So we sat quietly praying to clear our own thoughts for a few minutes, and we needed to get home.  We spoke briefly with him, and he looked fine and seemed very happy and composed, and I commented on how well he looked.

I noticed when we left how happy I FELT!  There are opportunities every minute of the day and in every place to be a good Samaritan and love our neighbor as ourself, whether it’s a formal treatment or praying to create an atmosphere conducive to healing.  I just love this Science.
