Family Reorganisation

It may seem strange, but a notable demonstration I have experienced is of a harmonious separation from my husband. Far from being traumatic and painful, it was a liberating, progressive and harmonious step for all parties.

For several years our precious marriage had seemed to disintegrate in front of my eyes, notwithstanding my consistent efforts both prayerfully and practically. The year previous to taking class instruction I had finally understood the underlying reason and exposed it, which had caused a rapid and frightening deterioration in my husband’s mental health and behaviour. I felt totally trapped in a kind of ‘Psycho’ scenario.

At this point I knew the only course of action which promised any hope of salvation was to give as much time and energy as I could to praying and working in Christian Science. With the loving support of a Practitioner I was able to prepare for and attend class instruction, and “in constancy, follow the Master”. Within 3 months of going through class, it became very clear that the best way to help my husband was to humanly and spiritually ‘let him go’ and leave him totally in God’s care.

A few weeks later I suggested that I find alternative accommodation nearer to my work in the city. Shortly afterwards he found himself alternative accommodation nearby our home, and made arrangements to move out. From that time our relationship immediately began expressing more respect and collaboration and we are now able to continue our joint parenting in a much healthier and more efficacious way.

My work during this period had really concentrated on studying and memorising the Ten Commandments, and carefully reading the Peel biographies, in tandem with Mary Baker Eddy’s public addresses and messages to the Mother church, in particular her address in Chicago on June 14, 1888. I am very grateful indeed.
