"Precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept, line upon line, line upon line, here a little and there a little." Isaiah 28:10
I had just checked my emails and there was to be a Skype meeting of the Executive Committee and shadow member to be held in two weeks’ time. The meeting required us to have access to a computer as the meeting would involve us performing some online tasks. I realised my trusty old iPad would not be efficient enough.
As I am a sculptor and designer/illustrator I wanted to replace my old Apple computer with the same type, so I had been waiting until I had the funds to buy one because it seemed I had been doing fine without.
I see now that I had settled into a limited sense of God’s provision rather than contesting the thought that I couldn’t afford a new computer. I know God supplies all good and God is infinite, never limited, but I was accepting limitation by just thinking I had to wait. The computer was a need, not a want. Mrs Eddy writes: “change things into thoughts!” When I pondered this need, the thoughts that came were efficiency, usefulness, accessibility, creativity and design. So: I needed to see God’s infinite supply in action. I felt quite calm and emailed the meeting Chair to explain the situation. I remember saying that we would see how God was going to sort this out!
At that time, I had been spiritually searching for answers through prayer and, through that seeking, had experienced a feeling of trust. It might seem strange, but I just knew the need would be met. I also refused to allow thoughts trying to outline how this need could be met to creep into my consciousness. God was organising this, not me! I loved this passage from the Bible: “Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the Lord of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.” (Mal. 3:10).
I had been doing just that; reading, pondering, and listening to God, so I was filling my mental storehouse and now was waiting for guidance. Then, in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, I found: “WIND. That which indicates the might of omnipotence and the movements of God’s spiritual government, encompassing all things . . .”
The Greek word for wind, (pneuma), is used also for spirit, as in the passage in John’s Gospel, the third chapter, where he writes: “The wind, (pneuma), bloweth where it listeth. So is very one that is born of the Spirit, (pneuma).” (Science and Health page 597:27 – 29; 598:1 – 5).
I always read the Christian Science Bible Lesson and, when life gets busy, I sometimes find myself reading the Lesson but not pondering it. Yet, recently, I had time at home where I could ponder more of the content of the Lessons and, as I use a digital version, I was able to quickly access more spiritual insights. I felt ready to be blessed without having to engineer the outcome myself. I felt so comfortable and receptive.
The next day I heard about a meeting with a client, and a possible commission. After a few days we were paid a large deposit to make a copper tree and we were also paid for a job previously undertaken. So! There was enough money to buy materials for the forthcoming job. And!We were able to buy the computer and replace my iPad. And! We still had enough for our monthly needs! You know, it only hit me a month later how amazing it is to have all our needs met as the blessings pour in. At the time it seemed so very natural. I am really so grateful for all I am learning in Christian Science.
