"Precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept, line upon line, line upon line, here a little and there a little." Isaiah 28:10
We have now been in India for 9 months, and things are beginning not to seem as strange as they once did. As a family we have had our challenges, but working together, knowing the underlying truth of the omnipotence and omnipresence of God, we’ve grown stronger and closer through these experiences.
This year I’ve experienced a number of healings, two of which stand out. The first was a curing of hair loss. My family noticed that I had lost some hair, and at first thought I had been careless shaving, as there were two quite big patches of hair missing from in front of my ears. On cutting my hair, my wife also noticed that there were small balding patches at the back of my head.
We immediately began to pray about this, mainly focussing on the idea that “there shall not an hair of your head perish,” but probably more importantly that man is a complete idea of God, and can lack nothing.
As this was such a visible situation I wore my hair a little longer to cover the patches, but this was to allow us to remain in the “secret place of the most high” and “hid with Christ in God” while we sought for healing. Although it all seemed very noticeable to us, only one other colleague ever commented on it.
Quite quickly hair started to grow back into the patches in front of my ears, and with continued prayer this growth became totally normal. The bald patches at the back of my head have also now disappeared. I’m grateful that as the weather is warming up in India I can now revert to my short haircut! God is good!
Another healing was instantaneous. I woke up one night with an excruciating pain in my lower back. I immediately said the “scientific statement of being.” I felt some relief, but the pain continued and it didn’t seem to matter whether I stood, sat, or lay down. I started to be quite fearful. My wife was praying too, and started to pray Psalm 91 out loud. By the time she reached verse 5, “Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night, nor for the arrow that flieth by day,” the pain left me. I fell asleep immediately, and awoke in the morning with no after effects.
My attendance at Association this year is also a continued demonstration of God’s supply. The current state of the stock markets has led to an increased focus on expenditure at work and there has been a close scrutiny on business-related travel costs. This has led to most travel between India and the UK being stopped. Thus it seemed most likely that I would have to travel to and stay in the UK at my own expense.
However, as a part of a small reorganization of my department in the new year, I picked up responsibility for a key team in the UK. It was decided that I should take over responsibility for this team in late April, and this meant I obtained approval for a trip to the UK which includes the Saturday of the Association!
Two things never cease to amaze me; first, now many things need to fit together on the human scene for something to work out for the best. And secondly, how these things do fit together when we leave God to do the fitting!
