"Precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept, line upon line, line upon line, here a little and there a little." Isaiah 28:10
Crises are always erupting in our lives. They may be in the form of diseases, disagreements, financial challenges, or even unemployment. They make the going tough. We agonize over them and we look for human solutions. We do our best to ignore the picture and blunder on. At times we are even tempted to give up. And during this momentous time, being the last resort, we let God have a way in our lives. And if the result is not instantaneous, we deeply cry, “My God, my God, why has thou forsaken me?’’
This is what happened to this dear friend of mine. She lives all alone in the house. One Saturday she slept and the following day she woke up as usual. She prepared her breakfast and ate. Being a Sunday, she had made up her mind not to attend the service but instead to get back to sleep due to working late hours.
As she was sleeping her cell phone rang. She tried to answer the call, but her voice would not come out. She was surprised. She was not feeling any pain anywhere at all. She tried to talk to herself to ascertain if it was true that she was voiceless. No voice at all!
She had never experienced that before. She texted a message to her sister who lives in another town and informed her about her situation. Her sister arrived in the evening and they decided to go and see a doctor the following day. The doctor, after examining her, referred her to a specialist. Being worried she did not resist as she felt the only thing she needed was to get healed. She heeded the doctor’s words. She went to a specialist, and was treated and put on a special diet. Thinking it would work very fast, and anxious to have her voice back, it was very disappointing when nothing happened. She remembered that her late aunt had also developed the same problem, and she had to talk using gestures.
Days passed, turned into weeks, and then almost two months with no voice, though she was still getting treatment and observing a special diet. She indeed felt despair and hopelessness. At her place of work many people looked at her differently as they saw her use gestures, and this made her feel down, and sad. She tried to disassociate herself from her friends and anybody who needed conversation with her.
Then, when she had lost confidence in her medical treatments, it became an opportunity for me to share with her more about Christian Science treatment, which she joyfully accepted. I deeply felt, as God’s representative, that His manifestation and evidence had to be experienced. I lifted my thoughts, with no
doubt, seeing only God’s presence and His perfection. Our leader says, “Working and praying with true motives, your Father will open the way.“ This was the way for the voice to be heard.
In just over a week’s time, as she was using gestures to show one of her colleagues on how to perform her duties, she just spoke unknowingly. They were all amazed. She couldn’t believe it. She called me, and I didn’t need to be told, as it was all very clear – the true voice with no taints. I really felt God’s power, “Let there be light, and there was light.” What cannot God do! He says, “You will seek me and find me when you search for me with all your heart.” (Jer:29:13)
I was heartened and greatly strengthened in knowing Christian Science heals, and heals wholly. We are Mind’s evidence, and we know what it means to demonstrate its truths.
