Making Spiritual Sense of Unexpected Supply

When I received two unexpected windfalls of money recently, it got me thinking about the definition of abundance.

In pondering this, I recalled the Bible story in I Kings about the woman whose two sons were about to be taken into bondage to pay the debts of her deceased husband. She goes to the prophet Elisha to ask for help. He asks her what supply she has in the house. (I realised later, it could mean what spiritual ideas of abundance she held in consciousness.) She told him she had one pot of oil. (Oil is defined in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures on page 592 as ‘Consecration, charity, gentleness, prayer, heavenly inspiration.) He tells her to borrow many containers from the neighbours. He then tells her to shut the door. (I realised that it meant closing the door on mortal thoughts of lack and opening it to the possibility of infinite spiritual abundance of ideas.) She poured the oil (of spiritual inspiration) until she ran out of containers. There was enough oil to sell to pay the debt and enough left over to live on.

I am grateful for the gift of spiritual understanding concerning abundance- that it is spiritual and infinite, and when understood as spiritual (even a little). When thought is receptive and heart grateful0 it can be expressed and experienced in our daily lives.
