"Precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept, line upon line, line upon line, here a little and there a little." Isaiah 28:10
When reading the first few chapters of “We Knew Mary Baker Eddy- Expanded Edition”, I was struck by a deeper concept of God’s allness. Each chapter seemed to emphasise how if God is All, there simply can’t be anything else.
I decided to dig deeper into the word “All”. I was struck by the many aspects of ‘perfection’ that appear within the definition of All. This is what I discovered in the Students Reference Dictionary.
All is radically (essentially, without derivation) the same word as:
- Call
- Heal
- Whole
Also, All can be defined as ‘the whole quantity, extent, duration, amount, quality or degree.
I investigated the word whole as well. I found it to mean:
· - complete; entire; not defective or imperfect
· - unimpaired; unbroken; uninjured
· - sound; not hurt or sick
I learned that Wholesome means useful, salutary, conducive to public happiness, virtue or peace. Also, I discovered that wholly means entirely, completely, perfectly.
This investigation has given me a deeper and broader understanding of what God’s allness means. Sometimes, I replace the word ‘all’ with one of the other meanings to get a different perspective on what I am reading.
