One Creative Power

Sunday morning at 7 am unexpectedly my daughter rang me.  I was grateful that I woken earlier and had already started reading the weekly Bible lesson and the Sermon on the Mount.  She explained that she was about an hour south of Grimsby, having driven a friend to her home there the previous night in order that the friend could attend a close relative’s funeral.  None of the trains were running due to the weather and my daughter had checked that the roads were clear.

My daughter mentioned that while driving to Grimsby the previous night, her car had come out of gear and she had needed to pull over.  The problem hadn’t come up again, but she was concerned about it, and had taken the practical steps of having the AA number to hand, and had kept her mobile fully charged.  She was confident to carry on with the rest of her journey, and I asked her to text me on her arrival in Bromley.

Once off the phone, I prayed.  I was led to look at Mrs Eddy’s answer to the question “What is man?” on page 475 of Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures.  The phrase “that which has no life, intelligence, nor creative power of its own, but reflects spiritually all that belongs to his Maker.” stood out to me.   It struck me that her car didn’t have a ‘creative power’ of its own- it couldn’t make a problem, solve one or do anything other than express spiritual qualities such the freedom a car can give you and orderliness in how it operated.  It seemed rather funny to think of a car having the power to create something on its own.  Furthermore, the love expressed by my daughter in taking her friend home, could not have any negative results. Love doesn’t have penalties.

Several hours later I received a text that she had arrived safely with no problems. The car has remained trouble free though she has an appointment to have it checked over.

I have continued pondering the idea of ‘creative power of its own’ and realised how I can apply that idea when thinking of any machinery, technology or situation.  I am very grateful for this demonstration of God being the only creator.
