Protection

Our son volunteers as a paramedic in the States in one of the current coronavirus hot spots.

About ten days ago he mentioned that, in spite of having full PPE kit, owing to the nature of one of the volunteer calls earlier that week he had been exposed to the virus. He had a sore throat, a bad headache, and was feeling very rough. He spoke with the head of the paramedic group with whom he volunteers and was advised to isolate for five days, report any change in symptoms, and if he developed a fever he was to be tested straight away.

How grateful I am to be able to turn immediately to God to calm my thought even though I am physically far away from our son. Each morning I pray with the Ninety-First Psalm for our family. Also, specifically for our on, I claim that: “Right motives give pinions to thought, and strength and freedom to speech and action.” His work in this area came out of his desire to help his fellow man and he couldn’t be penalised for this. As well, I know that, as Mrs Eddy also says: “Whatever it is your duty to do, you can do without harm to yourself.” Each of the volunteers had taken on many hours of extra shifts to help people, and I just knew that our son couldn’t be harmed by helping others. Instead, he was, and is: “. . . clad in the panoply of Love" always.

I continued to hold to these strong statements while also acknowledging that: “Divine Love always has met and always will meet . . .” every need he had, without my personal intervention.

We kept in touch daily and the symptoms abated with each day. At the end of his isolation period our son felt absolutely fine and was able to volunteer as scheduled for his ten-hour shift the following day.

There was another blessing. I was speaking with a friend who was living about a half-hour from our son around this time. She let me know that she was planning to drop a meal off for him the next day and was co-ordinating how to hand it over. To me, this was an example of divine Love meeting our son’s need, as it came about “just because” rather than through my own, or our son’s intervention.

I continue to pray actively for our son and the global situation and know that everyone can only be: “in the secret place of the most High.”
