Protection During a Hurricane

I heard the news of the impending Hurricane "Irene" which was heading towards the paths of my brother in Long Island and onwards towards Vermont where my daughter and her husband's family lived. I immediately got to work, and, like any mother, I telephoned my brother and daughter asking them what plans they had put in place! I was forgetting that it was not up to them to have 'plans' but that inevitably it would always be GOD'S PLAN, and not ours.

My brother said he was staying put, even though the US President was going on television and stating that anyone in the path of Irene must evacuate. Most folk took the authorities’ advice and left for safer areas away from New York. My brother merely stayed home and stocked up with some groceries, candles and batteries in case of power cuts. It was expected that Irene was heading straight to the beach where he lived and the hurricane force would be followed by a 'storm-surge' bringing with it an expected catastrophic disaster. However he was adamant that he was staying put! I kept asking him to leave but something was telling him to stay. I even called my daughter to persuade him to evacuate to her home, but he refused.

As for my daughter, I nearly got on a plane and went over to her. Her husband was stuck in Colorado because there had been a second earthquake and all airports were closed so he was not able to get out back to Vermont. I was so concerned that my daughter had never experienced a hurricane before, and was all alone in her house with two cats, a dog and a little 3 year old boy. But I could not get a flight as their airports were closed .

The phone lines were still up, and my daughter said she was filling up the basement with groceries and necessary provisions to keep themselves going for some time. I was reassured by her calmness and decisiveness. The following night her husband arrived on the last flight home, which was very comforting.

I sat in my bedroom that night in silent prayer, keeping the good thoughts that I always depend on in times of difficulties, understanding that God's perfect creation IS PERFECT and there can be no other outcome but a perfect one. I held steadfastly to God's idea, knowing that man is God’s perfect reflection.

I knew that both my brother and my daughter and her family were always surrounded by this beautiful light, protecting them, wrapping around them like a gorgeous rainbow. I saw that God's love surrounded them, always and forever. The hurricane could not touch them for they are spiritual and always in a safe place. Confident in the knowledge that my family is governed and

surrounded by God's love, I fell asleep and knew that they were fine, that no harm could touch them. I trusted in God's protection.

Next day, without any rush or urgency, I answered the telephone. My daughter told me that everywhere in Vermont was devastated and an utter mess. They had never had such storms in their history, and all was flooded, with exception of their little neighbourhood! They escaped the massive flooding that had engulfed their towns & villages. I asked what did my grandson think and feel about this experience. "Oh! we sat in your bedroom, mother, and watched Mary Poppins and Zachy was singing supercalifragilisticexpialidocious, non stop, he never noticed a thing".

I then called my brother, and he told me that only his little enclave and neighbourhood were without any damage or destruction. They were untouched by the torrential storms and hurricane. There was even a tornado followed the storms, yet they were untouched. They were facing the beach with the full onslaught of the storm, which later made its way up to Vermont. My daughter was also in the 'eye' of the storm – yet these were the two places which were UNTOUCHED.......No power cuts, all phone lines working, computers working as normal. Their food provisions came in handy as their shops were under water.

So....prayer does work. Prayers don’t evaporate, but rather accumulate and build into a strong positive thought.

Needless to say, how deeply grateful I am and I feel so blessed to know God’s love.
