"Precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept, line upon line, line upon line, here a little and there a little." Isaiah 28:10
My very dear friend and neighbour told me this story. She had a very strict father. One little mistake, and all hell would break out! My friend’s mother used to keep all his things very secure because she had a very hard time if the children messed anything up! So the children grew up fearing him.
One day when she was a child my friend’s little brother took his Dad’s washing soap for the children to use. They were bathing with no hurry, knowing that he wasn’t nearby. But while they were having fun playing with the bubbles, the cow came along and ate the soap! All the big joy turned into a cry! What to do? Think fast and come up with a solution! My friend rushed to the house and took some of her mother’s money. Then she ran to the shop with lightning speed and came back with another soap. Now the problem was that the soap the cow had eaten wasn’t new, so they had to bath fifty times to bring the new soap down to the same size!!
But what was really sad was that the brother was angry and swore to teach that cow a lesson, so he went and cut its ear. The other children were very unhappy about this. Because of this and many other incidents, my friend felt her father had never been a good dad.
As we talked about God’s love, and also the good things that her dad did for her, she has started to take another angle about her dad. She now talks about him with a lot of warmth, and even though he lives far away he comes and stays with the family for some time. When you see him communing with his daughter’s children you can guess the joy. Thanks be to Christian Science!
