The Vastness of Christian Science

I love what I am learning about Christian Science; that it is infinite. As Mary Baker Eddy says: “I love the vastness of Christian Science!” (Science and Health 330:2).

I saw the proof of it one day when I was walking. I tripped and fell face forward onto the road. I felt a power, strong and steady, lifting me up and sending me on my way. I wasn’t afraid. I simply knew that God was in charge and I never looked back.

This has never happened to me before. I would have been anxious and immediately pulling out every citation I could think of from my study of Christian Science to defend me from any after-effects which I imagined in great detail. But I had no “what ifs” and there were no repercussions. That was simply the end of it. It was all so natural.

This reminded me of what Mary Baker Eddy said: that when we relied on Christian Science we could remain: “undisturbed amid the jarring testimony of the material senses.” (Science and Health 306:25).

I also thought of Paul saying: “none of these things move me.” (Acts 20:24).

I remember the story of a little girl who fell out of a third storey window onto the pavement below; she was healed. Later, her younger sister asked her how that happened, and she replied: “my body fell, but I was not IN my body.” That rang true for me, too.

Also, I remembered what a friend of mine said: “we cannot fall from grace.”

Christian Science truth is so much higher than our human perception of things, like the repercussions of a human fall. It is thrilling to know that we can just keep on expanding and never reach a circumference of our understanding of God and Christian Science. Isn’t this heaven on earth?
