Diamond Jubilee Healing!

Over the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee weekend, our road was planning a Street Party. Several of the neighbours, including myself had been involved in the plans, and it looked set to be a wonderful opportunity to celebrate and for everyone to better get to know each other.

The morning of the party, I woke feeling nauseous, with a pounding headache and full of aches. I searched my thought: was I assuming a false sense of responsibility about this party? I didn’t think so, even though our home was the alternative site in case of rain. Everyone had been contributing to the day. My husband and son were away, and I knew I couldn’t ask my daughter to cover my tasks, nor did I want her to as she was committed to plenty of other fun activities. The motive behind the party had been one of love, and the blessings were already being seen with neighbours who hadn’t known each other well before, exchanging useful contacts and conversing often in the street.

The thought came quite strongly that “God is my Father and Life is the law of my being.” (S&H p 63). I’ve turned to this statement often and in this instance I focused on Life being the law of my being- not people (present or absent) nor food (which wasn’t staying down) or anything else. Life with all it entails- joy, freedom, vitality, energy & enthusiasm was what governed my being. Therefore, that was all I could know, feel and express.

It felt right to try to shower and get ready for the day, even though I could barely stand I felt so poorly. I clung to this statement, really focusing on what ‘Life being the law of my being’ meant.

Within a very short time, I was totally fine with no trace of a problem. I proceeded with my remaining preparations and 30 minutes later was welcoming several neighbours who had come to lay out tables. My freedom was permanent - I participated fully in all the set-up, activities and tidy-up and enjoyed the variety of food on offer.

I am very grateful to experience this quick demonstration of how Life is the law of our being.
