Employment Found

Last Summer, I was laid off from my job after nearly 13 years of service. The company I had worked for had lost a contract. I was very angry with my ex- boss. I had done my best, my appraisals and attendance had been good.

I had to forgive him. This was not easy. A practitioner shared an audio lecture entitled “No victims and no villains” by Myrtle Smith. In it the speaker stated that Jesus proved by his resurrection that there are no victims and villains. She also gave her own testimony on the power of forgiveness. The article “Love thine enemies” by Mary Baker Eddy was also helpful.

I could see the situation a little from his perspective and the spiritual qualities he expressed. After the final redundancy meeting, I was able to shake his hand and wish him well.

Now I was searching the job market as a 55 year old. I posted my CV on the internet at different job search sites, and got very few responses.

Certain material beliefs needed to be dispelled. There was a belief that there are not enough jobs. There are jobs for everyone. The belief that man can be unemployed. Man is always employed. He is in the employment of expressing God's qualities for example patience, vigour, energy to name but a few.

The aggressive mental suggestion that I was not needed or wanted came to thought. Man is the beloved of the Lord.

Friends suggested I go to local recruitment agencies. I was willing to do unskilled labour. I had been to a local recruitment agency asking about employment, but had drawn a blank. A few weeks later I had an inkling that I should go back to the same agency and enquire again. This time a job opportunity had just opened up and I had the appropriate forklifting skills and experience for this position. This employment is still ongoing. I had been out of work eight weeks.

I am very grateful for the help of the Christian Science practitioner and the harmony that Christian Science brings.
