Guidance for Son and Mother

God’s guidance for a wayward son -- and his mum!

Last year, with a son set on experimenting with all the least desirable things in life, I caught myself wondering why some children seemed to be endowed with all the gifts and ability, while others didn't even seem to have common sense!

Luckily I noticed myself thinking this and set about reversing it.  Of course God's good flows uninterrupted throughout all his creation. There can be no barriers or deprived areas. We all spring from that "boundless basis" which has been mentioned more than once  in the lesson in recent months. This distilled in my thought to the idea that my son always had a gentle quiet voice over his shoulder, guiding him in the right ways, and that nothing could prevent him from hearing and responding to it.

In his first college term he was in serious danger of being thrown off the course because his academic work was so far behind, and he has always struggled with written work.  When he came home this Easter, it was with the knowledge that he was in line for an overall distinction for the years work, and with the report due in two weeks after he returned from the Easter break already completed.

Best of all, he is a much happier boy, and although not completely virtuous, is discovering how he can have fun riding horses, climbing mountains and potholing rather than pot smoking!

I am so grateful to that quiet gentle voice guiding both of us.
