"Precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept, line upon line, line upon line, here a little and there a little." Isaiah 28:10
I was in real mental turmoil. A family member’s birthday was coming up and another family member was behaving in ways that seemed selfish regarding arranging of a joint gift. All communication was by text. I felt I needed the wisdom of Solomon to know what, if anything, to text about it that day.
As part of my morning prayers, I read Mrs Eddy’s answer to the question ‘What is man?’ on page 475 of Science and Health. I read her answer until a phrase stands out to me, and then I endeavour to carry that phrase with me, applying it throughout the day.
“Man is idea, the image, of Love” stood out on this morning. Boy! Did that get my attention! I realised right then that there was a choice to be made; was I going to see this family member as an ‘image of Love’, or instead ‘bear false witness’ about them by seeing them as selfish and uncaring? I decided right then to see only ‘the image of Love’ and not anything else for this family member and for everyone I met that day.
I was led to type a short loving message to this one family member and within hours a gift was on its way and loving behaviour was all that was expressed during the days following and on the birthday itself.
I am very grateful that Christian Science can be applied to any situation including ones that seems discordant.
