Love's Solution to Dental Problems

One day a filling fell out of my tooth, and I made an appointment with the NHS dentist to sort this out.  Over the course of the following many months, and numerous appointments, a simple replacement filling became the need for  a dental crown, which kept falling out, then a second attempt at another crown which stayed in but was wobbly, and finally I was told that an extraction was necessary.

During all this, I recalled an article I had read a long time previously in a Sentinel or Journal. Although I couldn’t recall the full details, I remembered the writer, who was going through some long difficulty, kept in mind that the person who seemed to be causing problems for her was also a child of God, guided by the one Mind. She sincerely thanked him for his work (even though it appeared to be below standard) and eventually the whole situation resolved harmoniously in a way that she could not have foreseen.

So I also tried to see my dentist as a child of God, guided in his work by Mind, to appreciate his efforts, and to express gratitude to him at each appointment. It seemed wise also to ask to speak to the other dentist in the practice (who was the owner of the practice, and did all the private dental work), about the situation, but he did not wish to get involved with his colleague’s work, because they were both professionals, which I could understand.

Finally one day, I saw the hygienist for a teeth-cleaning appointment.  She urged me to speak to the owner of the practice, and this time, with her concerns voiced as well, I was able to see the owner.  To my astonishment, he couldn’t have been nicer, and immediately offered to do all necessary remedial work to my tooth, and even to replace a root canal filling done by a previous dentist which he felt was unsatisfactory.  Although he carried out this work at his own expense, he was very gracious about it, and I now have a well fitted and stable tooth, for which I am immensely grateful. I could never have afforded to have this private dental work done, and yet God found a solution to this problem which I could never have outlined.
