My Facebook Practice

Last year I had a Facebook practice! My brother was experiencing sudden severe pain and restricted movement that worried him greatly. After talking with me on the telephone he sent me a Facebook message saying, “I feel so different, I can hardly feel any pain, are you praying for me? If you are then please carry on as I think there is really something to this Christian Science!” I decided to continue ‘talking’ to him on Facebook so that he could read the messages and think about them. No wonder we are asked to express our experiences in writing because they can help others so much.

One morning my thought was that my brother had trapped himself into believing that he had no skills to bring to a new job, that he had no leg to stand on! I immediately messaged him and he replied, “Yes, what a thought!” He said he had read a few articles on the CS websites and said, “It does make you think.” I told him about a child’s healing after being kicked in the mouth by a pony and he replied, “Yes, there is definitely something more to our life and health than we understand at present. I thank you for your support in this as the positive messages are really helping me to be strong.”

My brother then wanted to know how to contact a Christian Science Practitioner. I don’t know whether he did, but that doesn’t matter. In his next message, he said that his physiotherapist had told him that the condition would get worse. I said that there was no law that says it would get worse. The only law in operation was the law of Love.

My brother’s next message was very heartening. He said he had woken up the first morning for months without any pain around his knees and that he felt greatly improved. He said he hoped this was down to me and my positive thoughts! He said he could sense the warm wave of love coming from me and lifting him to new heights, and thanked me.

One morning I was awake when it was still dark, so I decided to work for my brother. I thought about him being safe and loved and that suffering was no part of his real experience. I remembered that trials, in patience, never leave us where they found us. All is progress, even when it is hard to see that at the time. I messaged my brother that he was innocent, and could not be harmed by intrusive claims. He responded by saying, “Very inspiring.”

My next thought was to dismiss from my thinking that I was trying to fix a physical problem. What I needed to do was address my thought and root out any lingering fear and doubt. I then told my brother that instead of trying to "fix" his legs and knees we were focusing on bringing peace and trust to his thinking and mine. I told him that his legs were innocent. I quoted this from Science and Health, "Whatever it is your duty to do, you can do without harm to yourself." My brother said this was a good thought process! We then talked about fear and I told him that fearful thought is at the bottom of any discord or disease.

My brother’s next message nearly blew me away. He had started to read Science and Health! When I gave it to him, a few weeks before, I explained it had once belonged to Prue, who he loved and respected very much. So he called it Prue’s and my book. He said it contained a lot of truthful revelations and that he was going to carry on reading it because it was strengthening his thought process and encouraging him to accept nothing less.

I continued to prayerfully support my brother and, several months’ later, I received a wonderful phone text from him. “I am pain-free,” he said. “I feel like my old self again! I am cycling and walking everywhere.” It seemed all he needed to do was adjust his diet and shed a fair amount of weight. I am so grateful to God, and happy for my brother.
