Praying Without Ceasing

I am very grateful that the desire to pray more often over the course of the day has been met in a most unexpected way.  In November, I started with a new employer somewhat cautiously as the work was over an hour from home and involved working a full five day week, which would leave me little time to attend to home-making and small administrative tasks.  I was grateful that the work started fairly slowly, but from January onwards I was working on the client site all week. I’d learnt in my last job how important it was to take time-especially over my lunch hour – to try to get away from my desk to pray.  So I was surprised and delighted to find that there is a Christian Science Reading Room just five minutes walk from the office that is open three lunchtimes a week.

I have been so grateful to be able to walk to this haven of rest and peace and prayer, to re-read the lesson or look up citations, and to shut out distractions and pressures while listening to Love’s ideas.  It’s not quite praying without ceasing, but together with prayer time on the train to and from work, the results have been felt in encouragement needed for work, and in dealing with challenges at home.

I’m also so grateful that the environments to which I am working and travelling provide opportunities to sometimes share an encouraging word or to leave a Sentinel or Monitor for someone else to read.
