Protection

My husband and I needed to be out one night and our teenage children stayed at home.  I spent the night away, while my husband returned home late and would collect me the following afternoon.  I had spent most of the afternoon prior to our being away praying to better understand man’s oneness with God, and God as the only cause and creator.

When my husband collected me the next day, his first comment was that things at home had been quite different than he had originally thought they’d be.  I was quiet, and asked God to help me listen to what I needed to hear.  My husband then told me that while he & the children had been eating breakfast that morning, the smoke alarm had gone off in the garage.  When they investigated it, they found nothing though it went off again a short while later.  This time, there was smoke coming from the boiler, and when the front cover was opened there was a live blue flame coming from a hole in a burned out gas pipe. 

My husband made the area as safe as he could and then called the first gas boiler man he found in the Yellow Pages.  They had had a cancellation of a major job, so were able to come over right away, disconnect the boiler, order new parts and start work immediately on taking out the old boiler.  My husband kept commenting on how protected we were- that it hadn’t happened while the children had been in the house on their own, or while we had all been out.  He was also amazed that someone was available to do the work right away.  I rejoiced with him and thanked God for this protection of our family and our home.

While I continued to be grateful, that wasn’t the end of the demonstration.  The work continued on a daily basis including the weekends for about 12 days.   As I needed to be present while the work was being done, I strongly claimed each morning and throughout each day that if I was to be part of this demonstration, whether was by being present, making numerous cups of tea, or whatever might be required, I would have the patience, calmness and grace to see the boiler installation through to its completion, without any penalty or burden. 

During this installation, for about 2 days the gasmen couldn’t find where the problem was in the gas pipe, so they weren’t able to turn on the gas again.  The idea of “all the way” came quite clearly to thought when they mentioned this problem.  God certainly wasn’t going to protect us and our home so well, provide a new boiler & the men to fit it - without the gas to run it!  It was just absurd to think it could be possible!  Within in a few minutes the men found what they needed, and the gas was hooked up a short while later. We soon had a new properly running safe boiler.

I am very grateful for such a vivid example of how complete God’s protection is and also for the growth in grace from being part of the complete demonstration.
