The Effective Power of the Truth

Early this year, during a financially difficult moment, the water was cut off at our house.  It was done in an illegal way, without warning or a registered letter of intent, which would have been normal.

My husband went out to see what the men from the Waterboard were doing and to speak to them.  He was met with aggression and spoken to as if he were a well-known criminal.  This was uncalled for and very upsetting for both of us.

It was the start of the weekend and it was snowing, so we couldn't phone the Waterboard or do anything about this.  My husband decided to turn the water back on, which he did for the weekend.  On Monday the Waterboard men came back and turned the water off again.  It seemed to be progressing into a "mini-war!”

During this time I was praying to see the truth about this situation.  I knew there could be only one way to turn it around, but I had to wait until my husband got the message too.  We had no water, but we were honest people in difficulties who had done no wrong in God's eyes.  We were safe in God’s truth.

The idea came to suggest to my husband that he could speak directly to the mayor of our village, telling him the truth of our financial situation and also how the Waterboard was actually breaking the law.  The mayor had been unaware that their action was breaking the law and discovered himself to be in an embarrassing position.  [1]‘Keeping our thought at one with the truth opened the mayor's thought to Mind’s intelligent ideas.  He contacted the other mayors of the community that were involved and warned them of what could happen.  He arranged for our water to be turned back on immediately, and said that we simply had to pay a small amount per month until we were back on our feet.

My husband went to the Waterboard to pay them and was met by a very friendly and kind secretary who couldn't stop apologising for our terrible treatment...saying, what if there had been children or older people in the house!  The whole situation was turned around by Truth.  We were both so uplifted by this demonstration;   I felt so secure in God's love and truth.
