"Precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept, line upon line, line upon line, here a little and there a little." Isaiah 28:10
Last year, in the same week as Brexit, I sold my flat in London to cash buyers for a very fair price – a huge blessing, for which I am deeply grateful. The biggest reason to sell, besides funding my retirement, was so that I could contribute to causes I really believe in, and to help dear ones who needed financial support.
The legal processes for the sale went smoothly, and upon completion the Solicitors agreed to hold all the proceeds for a short while, until I could give specific instructions regarding transfer of funds.
A couple of weeks later I emailed requesting transfer portion of the funds for a favourable investment with good income, but after almost a week still nothing had happened. I then discovered that 100% of my money had already been transferred days before, in error, to a hacker’s bank account, using an email address very similar to mine. A very large proportion of my retirement fund was ALL GONE! In addition I was unable to honour commitments already made, including a large loan to dear friends so they didn’t lose the roof over their heads, and funding a home building project for one of my siblings who couldn’t afford to do so herself.
I immediately started praying to know that God’s man is upright and honest, that nothing is ever lost, and the only real substance is Spirit. I also contacted a practitioner who gave invaluable prayerful support and sent daily thoughts for me to work with.
The next evening, close friends arrived to stay - the wife is a solicitor, and her husband is a Financial Services specialist. On hearing the situation she immediately drafted a solicitor’s letter for me to send, and he added his thoughts too. Their consensus was that the firm’s insurance would finally refund the money, but it likely would take months and be a very challenging process. Meantime, of course, there would be serious repercussions because I could not honour the commitments I had already made.
By the Saturday of the same week, however, I felt reconciled to whatever the outcome would be, knowing that “underneath are the everlasting arms” no matter what the human story looks like. My intentions had been good and legions of angels were surrounding us, as always, so everyone involved would be unharmed. Then I took my dogs for a long early morning walk.
When I got home the visitors were having breakfast and my friend asked with a smile, “Have you been praying about this?” She then read out an email from the Senior Partner at my Solicitor’s firm saying that the TOTAL amount paid out erroneously had been returned in full by the wrongful beneficiary’s bank the afternoon before, and he did not understand how that had come about!
I was overwhelmed by this extraordinary demonstration. I am immensely grateful to have Christian Science in my life, and to have had the opportunity to take class instruction and be part of this inspiring Association.
